About the Plunge
Whether you’re a first time plunger or a seasoned veteran we’re glad you stopped by to learn about the Polar Plunge for Special Olympics Kansas!
New for 19!
We’ve got a new location for the Kansas City Plunge and we are changing up our incentive program for all locations.
In 2019, the funds you raise will earn you Polar Bear Bucks that you can use on the day of the Plunge at the Official Special Olympics Kansas Polar Plunge Swag Station! We will have all kinds of goodies available for you to spend your hard earned Polar Bear Bucks.
What is the Plunge?
The Polar Plunge is an annual event that takes place throughout the state to raise money for Special Olympics Kansas. Brave individuals raise money leading up to the event and on the day of they jump into the icy waters of Kansas pools or lakes!
For lakeside locations we have heated tents for changing after you take the Plunge. For pool sites we have warm places plungers can change and dry off.
You can register as an individual or as part of a team. Have a group of friends who love to do crazy things for a great cause? Gather them together and start a team today! Teams can have as few as two people or as many as you can find!
Each location has its own fun events and perks in addition to the plunge including costume contests, vendors, the Official Swag Station and more. Check out each location’s page for details!
Do you know a school or non-profit group or sports team who needs money? Check out the Revenue Share page to learn how they can earn money for their cause while participating in the Polar Plunge for SOKS!
What is the Polar Strut?
Polar Struts vary by location but may consist of a 5K, 5K run/walk, 1 mile fun run/walk or even a cross country run. Go for time or enjoy a stroll. Either way you’ll be strutting your stuff for Special Olympics Kansas! The Strut, like the Plunge, requires a minimum donation to participate and we encourage you to raise more money for the cause.
What is a Virtual Plunger?
Virtual Plungers come in all shapes and sizes. Want to help raise money for SOKS athletes but don’t want to jump into the icy water? Going to be out of town on the day of the Plunge? Then be a virtual plunger!
All you have to do is register for the location of your choice and raise money to support SOKS. You will earn Polar Bear Bucks just like strutters and plungers but you don’t have to take the Plunge. Pick up your Polar Bear Bucks at registration on the day of the Plunge and pick out the swag of your choosing! We know jumping into cold water isn’t for everyone but we think raising money can be!
Why do the Polar Plunge / Strut?
The simple answer is this: to raise money for Special Olympics Kansas – a non-profit that provides sports training and competition, leadership workshops and opportunities, and health/wellness screenings and programs to individuals with intellectual disabilities (ID) at NO COST to participants.
People with ID are under-served in communities nationwide and Special Olympics works to meet the needs of this population and create communities of inclusion in Kansas and around the world.
The Polar Plunge for Special Olympics Kansas is the state’s largest fundraiser that aims to keep athletes with ID on the playing field all year round.
Join us in making a difference for individuals with ID in your community today and throughout the year by signing up to
