Are you ready to go back in time? This year’s Polar Plunge will have you #FrozenInTime in your favorite decade! Participants are encouraged to get creative to put together their best outfits from the 00s, 90s, 80s, 70s, 60s, and beyond! Each location will have a costume competition to judge who brought their best outfit out, so don’t be afraid to go all out on this one! If you’re plunging alone, dress to stand out, and if you’re plunging with a team, get together and dress in the same decade! Use your creativity for this one, because there will be a costume contest at each city’s Plunge, and you won’t want to miss out! If you post on social media, use the #FrozenInTime hashtag, and your post might get shared on the SOKS page!

When putting costumes together, please be mindful of the items you choose to wear. Please be sensitive to what others may think and feel, and choose items that will not offend others based on their age, gender, ethnicity, religion, sexuality, disability or cultural beliefs. Also, remember that all Plungers must wear swim suits under their costumes, and must wear shoes or water socks in the water.

Costume inspiration

Let’s face it, the fashion of the 2000s is a scar on pop culture history, but let’s have some fun with it! Get together your favorite velvet track suit, grab your Nokia cell phone, and layer as many Ed Hardy t-shirts as possible, because you’re going to be prepping for a cold dip into the 2000s!

The 90s offers endless opportunities for group costumes! From boybands, to girl groups, to legendary TV show friend groups, this decade offers it all! Layer up the denim, find your best grunge look, or go the whole 9 yards and add some frosted tips for costume ideas from this decade!

We already know that you guys have these costumes ready. Everyone has been to an 80s themed party, so this one should be self explainable! Head back in time and grab those leg warmers, stock up on your hairspray, and channel your inner Marty McFly. We cannot wait to see your 80s costumes!

This will be a fun one for anyone who is ready to get groovy! The 70s offered endless style opportunities – disco, flower power, rock n’ roll, you name it! The Polar Plunge might not offer a “Saturday Night Fever” but you might take home that “Saturday Morning Chill” if you choose the 70s!
